Tsiounis: “We must respond with energy and consistency”

Adelaide United Head Coach Theo Tsiounis says his side must “bounce back quickly” after Sunday afternoon’s 3–1 defeat to Brisbane Roar at Coopers Stadium.

The Reds produced moments of quality – including a superb long–range strike from Erin Healy – but were ultimately punished at key moments in the match.

Tsiounis on the performance
“Yes, it was a disappointing result. We looked disjointed at times both in and out of possession. Credit to Brisbane – they played well and made it difficult for us to build any real momentum.
We’ve shown glimpses of what we want to look like as a team, but today we couldn’t sustain it for long enough.”

Tsiounis on conceding before half-time
“Conceding when we did didn’t give us the chance to get back into the game. At the break we spoke about their key threats and what we needed to do to claw our way back. At 2–0 the scoreline can be tricky, so we needed to bring energy and show some bravery to swing the momentum.”

Tsiounis on Dawber and Worts’ first starts of the season
“It was great to see the girls make their first start. They all have strong individual qualities, and it will take a bit of time to get them where they need to be physically and tactically. The more minutes they get, the more they’ll be able to influence games the way we know they can.”

Tsiounis on Erin Healy’s first Ninja A-League goal of the season
“She has been excellent in all of our games. She can create space for herself and has a great connection with the ball. It was a really strong passage of play and a fantastic strike — hopefully that gives her even more confidence moving forward.”

Tsiounis on responding against Victory
“It’s a good opportunity to bounce back. We’ve shown glimpses of what we’re capable of, and the aim now is to deliver that consistently and with energy. There’s no better chance to respond than away to Victory — we’ll prepare well and be ready.”
