Adelaide United Ninja A-League Women’s coach Theo Tsiounis says the squad has used a timely mini mid-season break to refresh and refocus, as the Reds prepare to travel to Queensland for a tough assignment against Brisbane Roar.
Tsiounis on the mini mid-season break and the value of resetting ahead of a Finals push…
“After a hectic run of consistent games, the break came at a really good time for the group. It’s allowed everyone to refresh physically and mentally ahead of our clash with Brisbane. These moments are valuable to reset, refocus on our standards, and build momentum for the final push towards Finals.”
Tsiounis on the group’s growth since Round 1 and the next step in the run home…
“Our focus from Round 1 has been on our processes, principles and technical execution. We’ve seen real growth in our understanding and application of those areas. The next step is ensuring we continue to execute consistently, particularly under high pressure, as we head into the home stretch of the season.”
Tsiounis on what Brisbane Roar will bring and the key battles…
“As the table shows, the league is extremely tight. Brisbane Roar are a strong, well-organised unit with key players such as Bente Jansen and Momo Hayashi who can influence games. They’re in their current position for a reason. We’re expecting a tight contest, and the key battles will come down to discipline, winning key moments, and executing under pressure.”
Tsiounis on squad availability and depth…
“The squad is tracking well. Our depth has been a real strength this season, allowing us to maintain performance levels across a demanding schedule. We’ll continue to look for opportunities to rotate where we feel we can gain an advantage in certain areas of the field, while ensuring we maintain continuity and cohesion.”
Tsiounis on targets for the run home…
“I’m a strong believer in focusing on one game at a time and doing everything possible to maximise our performance each week. Regardless of the opponent or timing, our intent is always to win. Developing a strong winning mentality, underpinned by confidence and trust in our processes, is critical for us.”
Tsiounis on the key lesson for young players and the influence of senior leaders…
“Our senior players have been outstanding role models for those coming through, and that’s incredibly important for sustained success. A quote I often reflect on although slightly adapted is that they are planting seeds whose shade they may never sit under. It’s been powerful for our younger players to see that the goal is to leave the guernsey in a better place after every game and every season.”
