The Socceroos booked their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with a famous night in Sydney.
After a tense 0–0 first leg in San Pedro Sula, Australia returned home needing a result in the decisive second leg of the Intercontinental Playoff. Captain Mile Jedinak delivered one of the great Socceroos performances, scoring a hat-trick as Australia defeated Honduras 3–1 at Stadium Australia.
The victory sealed Australia’s fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup qualification and capped a dramatic qualifying campaign under Ange Postecoglou, with Socceroos legend Tim Cahill also featuring on the night.
