The Bulls return to Campbelltown Sports Stadium this Easter long weekend for a blockbuster “War of the Roses” clash against the high-flying Newcastle Jets.
Ahead of Thursday night’s fixture, Chris Ikonomidis spoke to the media about the side’s recent win over Auckland FC and what fans can expect as the Bulls look to build momentum.
Reflecting on that crucial victory, Ikonomidis highlighted the importance of sticking to the game plan and carrying that confidence into this week’s challenge.
“It was a top win for us in a crucial part of the season, obviously against a very very good side.
“I think the main takeaway is that when we stick to the main game plan, and the players know their roles, we can beat any team.”
“We know the Jets are in strong form, so it’s about staying grounded, preparing well, and taking that same mindset into this week. If we do that, we’ll give ourselves every chance.”
After a brief spell on the sidelines through injury, Ikonomidis has returned to action, linking up with Mitchell Duke as part of the Bulls’ attacking duo. He expressed his excitement about being back on the pitch and contributing to the team’s push towards finals.
“Very excited to be playing my part and contributing to the season. Hopefully we can continue the recent form we’ve had and get another win tomorrow night, and for the rest of the season.”
“The most important thing for us is securing a spot in the top 6 and once we get that, then we all really believe in ourselves to go all the way.”
With the race for the top six heating up, every match carries added significance. Thursday night is no exception. For Ikonomidis, there’s no better place to embrace that pressure than in front of a home crowd.
“It’s our favourite place to play, it’s our fortress. We always have that extra bit of motivation to put in a great performance for the fans, members and owners when we play here at home.”
