A Disciplined Manly Side Draw Even at Blacktown

Manly United earned a hard-fought point on the road in Round 2, holding Blacktown City to a 0–0 draw in a tightly contested encounter at Landen Stadium.

The Manly boys began brightly, applying early pressure and testing Blacktown’s defensive structure, though the hosts stood firm to prevent any clear-cut chances.

Throughout the game, the team showed discipline and intent, pressing well and staying compact against quality opposition. While the shots were limited, they continued to look dangerous in transition. Darcy Burgess came closest in the first half with a powerful strike from distance that forced a sharp save, while Ayumu Kimura injected pace and energy in attack, creating promising moments that narrowly missed the final touch.

At the other end, Manly’s defensive resolve stood firm. Aaron O’Driscoll was immense at the back, leading with authority and composure throughout the 90 minutes and his commanding display rightly earned him the gaffer’s Player of the Match.

Blacktown pushed hard after the break, but Manly’s structure, work rate and commitment ensured the clean sheet remained intact. Every player contributed in a contest that demanded resilience and focus.

While a breakthrough goal proved elusive, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. 1st Grade coach Vlado Knežević commented:

“We analysed their games and saw problems coming from corner kicks and set up to defend the set pieces. The boys fought for every ball and stuck to our game principles. They created better chances in the second half. In many games away at Landen, our team has only the one win. So, we take the point – I’m happy.”

A second win for the U20s

Just before the First Grade game, Manly’s U20s produced an exhilarating 3–2 victory. Henry Rumler struck twice, with Zach Hillyer also finding the net, as the young Manly side showed attacking intent and resilience to make it two from two and take their overall points tally to 6.

A disciplined display for the First Grade and a convincing victory for the U20s – both results providing a positive platform ahead of the next Senior Men’s fixture against APIA Leichardt FC at Cromer Park on Feb 20.
