Vital Home Win Gives Manly Men a Boost

Manly United produced a crucial win on Friday night, defeating UNSW FC 2-0 at Cromer Park in a gripping, tightly contested encounter.

In a match that carried significant weight in the context of the ladder, Manly rose to the occasion on home turf, delivering a result that not only secured three valuable points but underlined the growing confidence and belief building within the squad in recent weeks.

The hosts struck first in the 10th minute through Sam Griffiths, finishing off a sharp counterattack after Ayumu Kimura and Darcy Burgess combined brilliantly to break out from a defensive corner situation.

UNSW responded strongly and tested Manly throughout the evening, but the home side’s defensive resolve stood firm. Goalkeeper Harry Turner produced several crucial saves, while the backline repeatedly came up with desperate interventions to protect the clean sheet.

Manly doubled their advantage early in the second half when Stephen de Robillard calmly finished after a clever lay-off from Kimura, scoring his third goal of the season to give the hosts breathing room and ultimately, secure the win.

It was also a memorable night for Ben Koop, who celebrated his 100th appearance for Manly United. For the long-time club player and proud Forest Killarney product, the important home victory was a fitting way to mark the milestone occasion.

A Hat-Trick Sees the U20s Claim Victory

The U20s also enjoyed a thrilling night at Cromer Park, securing a 3-2 victory in another entertaining contest. Capping off a strong team performance, Will McCreery produced a superb hat-trick to guide Manly to an important win and lift the side to seventh on the ladder.

Next up for the Senior Men’s squad – another home game on Saturday afternoon, when the club hosts fifth placed Wollongong Wolves FC. KO 5pm.
