Strong Manly Display Against In-Form Wolves

Manly United pushed one of the competition’s form sides all the way on Saturday night, narrowly falling 1-0 to Wollongong Wolves in a hard-fought Round 15 clash at Cromer Park.

In a physical and tightly contested encounter, the visitors struck early through Kazuya Yamamura, whose 18th-minute finish ultimately proved the difference between the two sides.

Despite the setback, Manly again showed their quality against top-quality opposition and continued the improved form and intensity that has developed across recent weeks.

The hosts started brightly, creating dangerous moments at both ends during an energetic opening spell. Harry Turner was again important between the posts, producing several key interventions to keep Manly firmly in the contest, while Aaron O’Driscoll delivered another composed defensive performance under pressure – a display that earned him selection in the NPL NSW Team of the Week.

O’Driscoll worked equally hard at the attacking end, with a first-half header going close. Sam Griffiths and Stephan de Robillard threatened as the side searched for an equaliser, while Darcy Burgess also looked lively in attacking transitions as Manly continued to push Wollongong deep into the second half.

With the Wolves arriving at Cromer Park unbeaten in 10 matches, the performance again demonstrated the growth and resilience within the Manly group despite the full time score.

U20s Continue to Rise

The U20s secured another impressive result with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Wollongong Wolves in the late game at Cromer Park.

Ryan Parkes opened the scoring for Manly before Morgan equalised for the visitors. A Wolves own goal restored the lead for the hosts, though Morgan again struck to make it 2-2 and set up a tense finish. With the game in the balance, Dom Ross produced the decisive moment with a superb strike to seal an important win for Manly – a result that lifts the side into fourth place on the ladder.

The squad now looks towards its next fixture – St George City FA at Penshurst Park on Saturday, May 23.  First Grade KO 7.15pm.
