The Western Sydney Wanderers U23 Women have been crowned Champions after holding their nerve in a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Illawarra Stingrays in Saturday’s Grand Final.
With the sides locked at 1-1 following 120 minutes of football, the Red & Black prevailed 4-3 from the penalty spot to cap off their season with silverware.
The Wanderers were forced to respond to an early setback after Illawarra found the opening goal inside the opening 15 minutes.
Rather than allowing the early blow to dictate the contest, the Wanderers settled into the match and continued to compete with confidence, creating opportunities as they searched for a way back into the Grand Final.

The second half developed into a tense battle, with both sides pushing for the decisive goal and both goalkeepers producing important saves to keep their teams in the contest.
Neither side could find a breakthrough before the end of regulation time, sending the Grand Final into extra time.
The Wanderers continued to show enormous resilience across the additional 30 minutes, remaining organised and committed as the match stayed locked at 1-1 after 120 minutes and the Championship was left to be decided from the penalty spot.
