LEGACY GROWS: City skipper makes 150th ALW appearance

Melbourne City captain Rebekah Stott has etched her name into A-League Women’s history, making her 150th competition appearance in Sunday afternoon’s 3-1 win over Perth Glory at AAMI Park.

The milestone marks an extraordinary chapter in a remarkable career, with Stott becoming just the 11th player in Ninja A-League Women’s history to reach 150 appearances.

A leader on and off the pitch, the City skipper has overcome challenges few could imagine, including a battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, to not only return to professional football but to continue thriving at the highest level.

Sunday’s win saw City make it back-to-back wins at AAMI Park, with Stott’s calm presence once again proving pivotal. It was a fitting stage for the 32-year-old, who has built a legacy as one of the most respected and successful players in the competition.

Stott’s A-League Women’s journey began as a teenager with Brisbane Roar, before she made 25 appearances for Melbourne Victory. In 2015, she was signed by City’s inaugural head coach Joe Montemurro, becoming one of the Club’s first-ever Women’s signings.

Since then, she has become a Club legend, making 125 A-League Women’s appearances for City and 134 in all competitions, the most by any woman in Club history.

Her trophy cabinet is equally unrivalled: four Premierships and four Championships, making her the most decorated player in Melbourne City history, with eight major trophies.

City Women’s Head Coach Michael Matricciani paid tribute to his captain after the win, underlining her influence across every facet of the team: “She’s the one that words can’t express how important she is to this group, both on pitch, off pitch, culturally. She’s our captain, she’s our leader and she leads by example.”

“She’s like another coach, and she wants to get into coaching. Hopefully she plays for a few more years, but I think she’s going to be a top coach as well one day.”

Stott and City will now enjoy a brief break before returning to action in the new year. Our first fixture of 2026 sees us return to ctrl:cyber Pitch to host Sydney FC on Sunday 4 January. Click here to secure your tickets and start the new year with City.
