Bunge motivated for Adelaide doubleheader

Claudia Bunge is up and about for Melbourne Victory’s test against Adelaide United in the Ninja A-League on Saturday afternoon.

Presented with the opportunity to continue their winning ways against the Original Rivals, most recently beating out the Reds 1-0 in December, Melbourne Victory take on Adelaide at Coopers Stadium on Saturday, January 17, kick-off 4:50pm AEDT.

Playing her part in Victory’s rock-solid defence that kept United out in their previous meeting at AAMI Park, Claudia Bunge is keen to do her part in her team’s ambition to push for silverware this season.

Looking back on Sunday’s defeat to Brisbane Roar, Bunge and the Victory playing group are motivated to improve following a big week of training.

“I think we made moves against Brisbane. I think collectively we played better than what we had previous weeks. To concede off a corner is always really hard.

“It’s just those finer margins, and I think that’s something we’ve struggled with this year. It’s just tightening up around transition moments and the finer details. That’s something we’ve been working on and something we’re going to look at going into the game on Saturday.”

Kicking off Victory’s doubleheader against the Reds on Saturday, Bunge makes her return to Coopers Stadium after a memorable outing in Adelaide last season.

Scoring a remarkable brace in her side’s win in the first leg of the A-League Women’s Semi-Final, the Kiwi defender expressed her excitement about the upcoming game when asked if she could recreate her goal-scoring antics in South Australia.

“I hope so! That was an amazing occasion, I was honestly just happy that we had won.

“Last season, our set-pieces were a real threat. With a bit more consistency this season, it’s kind of just like a switch – I feel like once we start getting them, we won’t stop.”
