Brisbane Roar can today announce that defender Dimitri Valkanis has signed a three-year deal with the club after the conclusion of his loan spell from Greek Super League giants, AEK Athens FC.
Valkanis was pivotal in the backline during the 25/26 Isuzu UTE A-League season, making 23 appearances, 22 blocks and 16 interceptions, and scoring three goals.
His performances led to the 20-year-old receiving the 25/26 Rado Vidosic Brisbane Roar Young Player of the Year at the club’s annual Awards Night.
Valkanis said he had no hesitation in making the move permanent. “From the moment I arrived in Brisbane, this club felt like home. The supporters, the staff and my teammates have all played a part in my growth last season, and I’m proud to commit my future here,” he said.
“Winning Young Player of the Year was a special moment, but it’s only the beginning. I want to keep improving, help this team compete for silverware, and repay the faith the club has shown in me.”

Sporting Director James Gow said “Dimitri is a key signing and an important piece of the puzzle. Dimi is composed, courageous and a player that loves to defend.
“To convert his loan into a permanent three-year deal reflects both his ambition and our long-term vision to bring the best young talent to Brisbane. He has a high ceiling, and we believe the best is still ahead of him in a Brisbane Roar jersey.”
Brisbane Roar can also confirm that Dimitri will continue wearing the number 3 jersey for season 2026/27.
With pre-season beginning today, the club looks towards its first pre-season fixtures shortly ahead of our 2026 Australia Cup Round of 32 clash against Sydney Olympic.
