There is a growing sense of belief within the Western Sydney Wanderers squad as preparations continue for the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
For midfielder Dylan Scicluna, pre-season has brought renewed energy, new faces and a fresh approach under Head Coach Ufuk Talay as the squad continues to build towards the opening round of the campaign.
“Yeah, it’s been tracking really well,” Scicluna said.
“Uffie has come in, new manager, so there’s a lot of new energy and fresh blood going around, which is nice.
“We’ve brought in some new players, which is always nice to get around the dressing room and get around the boys.
“But yeah, the vibe and the team culture that Uffy and Mal created since they come in has been really good. And yeah, it’s been a really positive start to life under the boss.”
Scicluna has also entered the new campaign feeling strong physically and confident in the foundation he has built throughout the opening stages of pre-season.
“I think coming into pre-season this year I felt really good,” he said.
“Probably the best my body’s felt personally coming into a season.
“So yeah, I think it’s a good foundation and hopefully I can just build on it and take it into the season.”
The midfielder has been one of the Wanderers’ brightest young talents in recent seasons, continuing to establish himself within the first-team environment and showing the technical quality, composure and energy that has made him an exciting part of the club’s future.
That energy appears well suited to the style Talay is working to implement, with Scicluna pointing to an aggressive, front-foot approach that he believes supporters will enjoy watching.
“I’ve really enjoyed it,” he said.
“I think the way the boss wants us to play is really exciting and, you know, it will be good for the fans and exciting for them to see what we’re trying to create and build as well.
“But yeah, it’s definitely a lot of energy on the front foot. And yeah, can’t wait for the season to start.”
Beyond the football itself, Scicluna believes the strength of the group forming behind the scenes has given the Wanderers every reason to enter the new season with ambition.
With new players settling into the squad and a new football structure beginning to take shape, the midfielder believes the standards being established throughout pre-season can give the Wanderers a strong platform to compete.
“I think we have a very special group and special culture that we’re creating, and I don’t see why we couldn’t go all the way,” he said.
“So I think we’re all determined to win silverware and put it in the cabinet this year.
“So I don’t see why we can’t, what’s the word, shoot for the stars. And, you know, hopefully we can bring that silverware back to the West.”
With the start of the new campaign drawing closer, Scicluna’s confidence reflects the broader ambition taking shape within the squad: to continue building through pre-season, embrace the new direction under Talay and give Wanderers members and supporters a team capable of challenging throughout 2026/27.
